How Self-storage Notes collects, uses and protects your information.
Who is responsible for your data
Self-storage Notes (selfstoragenotes.com) is written and published by Serge Kaouane, acting as an individual. For any question about this policy or your data, email serge@selfstoragenotes.com.
What information I collect
- If you subscribe to the newsletter: your email address, plus the IP address and timestamp of your signup and confirmation, kept as a record of your consent (this is handled by MailPoet, the newsletter software running on this site).
- If you email me directly (via the Contact page or otherwise): whatever you choose to include — your email address, name if given, and the content of your message.
- Everyone else, automatically: basic technical server logs kept by my hosting provider for security and performance — IP address, browser/device type, pages requested, referring page, and date/time. These aren’t used to build a profile of you and aren’t combined with any other data.
I do not use Google Analytics, Google Fonts, advertising pixels, or any other third-party tracking or analytics service on this site. This site’s fonts are hosted on this server, not fetched from Google.
Why I collect it, and on what legal basis
- Newsletter: your consent, given when you submit the signup form and confirm it in the follow-up email (GDPR Art. 6(1)(a)). You can withdraw this at any time.
- Direct emails: to read and respond to what you’ve sent me — a legitimate interest in handling my own correspondence (Art. 6(1)(f)).
- Server logs: a legitimate interest in keeping the site secure, working, and free of abuse (Art. 6(1)(f)).
Cookies
This site uses one cookie, to remember whether you’re reading in English or Spanish. It doesn’t track you. Full details, and why there’s no cookie-consent banner, are in the Cookie Policy.
Who I share data with
- MailPoet — the newsletter plugin running on this site processes subscriber emails on my behalf, to send the newsletter and handle unsubscribes.
- Namecheap, Inc. — my hosting provider, which stores the site and any server logs.
I don’t sell, rent, or share your data with anyone for advertising or marketing purposes, and I don’t use any third-party analytics or ad network that would do so on my behalf.
International transfers
Namecheap, Inc. is a U.S. company. Where data is processed outside the EU/EEA as part of hosting this site, appropriate safeguards (such as standard contractual clauses) apply under that provider’s own terms.
How long I keep it
- Newsletter: until you unsubscribe (a link is in every email) or ask me to delete your details.
- Direct emails: as long as reasonably needed to handle the conversation, then deleted periodically.
- Server logs: kept by the hosting provider for a limited period for security purposes, then rotated or deleted.
Your rights
Under the GDPR, you have the right to access, correct, delete, or restrict the data I hold about you; to receive it in a portable format; to object to how it’s used; and to withdraw consent at any time. To use any of these, email serge@selfstoragenotes.com — I’ll respond within a month.
You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection authority. In Spain, that’s the Agencia Española de Protección de Datos (AEPD); readers elsewhere in the EU/EEA can contact their own national authority.
Children
This site is aimed at industry professionals and isn’t directed at children. I don’t knowingly collect information from children.
Changes to this policy
If how this site handles data changes, I’ll update this page and the date at the top.
